Academic Translation

With decades of experience in academia and academic translation, I fully understand the requirements of international publication. Detail-oriented, I guarantee that your manuscript translated into English will not be returned with any complaints about the language or request for it to be proofread or language-edited.

English for Academic Purposes

In customized online lessons, I draw on my knowledge of the academic world and my years of experience teaching English as a foreign language to help scholars overcome their linguistic barriers and take part in the international academic community.

Who I am

British-born with a PhD in applied linguistics, I specialize in academic translation (Brazilian Portuguese into English) and proofreading/copyediting (English). I have translated and copyedited over 500 scholarly articles in STEM and non-STEM subjects, and I teach translation and copyediting in higher education.

As a qualified English teacher, I combine years of classroom experience with in-depth knowledge of scholarly communication to help scholars and graduate students whose first language isn’t English take the next step in their careers. This might entail, for example, preparing and delivering a presentation, applying for an international fellowship, or participating in an international research group.

I hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2024), a Master’s in Language Studies from PUC-Rio (2006), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Manchester (1988). Other qualifications include a Diploma in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language to Adults from the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (1994) and a graduate diploma in conference interpreting (Portuguese/English) from PUC-Rio (2003).

I am a member of ACES: The Society for Editing.

"I help academics overcome the challenges of international scholarly communication."
